Rough Hollow Artwork Tour

Hello! I’m sharing some photos and going over the artwork selection process for a recently installed furnishings project in Rough Hollow. The clients purchased a new build that was still in the framing process when we first met at our initial walk through. We started with a clean slate, no existing furnishings, and designed the main living spaces, as well as their master and a guest bedroom- and now working on their home office. With a little over 4 months until their closing/move-in date, CGD selected and installed all rugs, furnishings, light fixtures, ceiling fans, artwork, bedding and accessories.

Artwork is a conversation starter– it reveals something about the homeowner’s personality. I start my art sourcing process by asking lots of questions about the client’s hobbies, personal interests, places of travel… I try to get inside their minds to find out what will excite them when looking at the artwork, or whether they’d like their art to be calming and minimalist.

To start- the husband and wife for this project shared with me their Pinterest and Houzz boards. They expressed they like the farmhouse modern style but also a modern minimalist feel, and pieces with character. They shared with me their love for the outdoors, plants and nature- so for the artwork I went with presenting landscape and ocean photography (being they are from the east coast and also just moved from California). I also incorporated some earthy / textural wood elements within the furnishings.

I landed on two coordinating aerial photography prints by photographer: Michael Schauer- and my clients were in love with them. They specifically loved this one titled “Smiling from above” – because the islands make out a happy face from aerial view and they thought this would be perfect to look at everyday.

Behind the sofa in the living room was a perfect niche for a console table and another art piece. We wanted to stay neutral with it and landed on a black and white giclee print that resembles a mayan transcript with specs of gold leaf detail on canvas, with a floating black frame. This art piece was sourced from one of my art dealers that represents over thousands of artists across the US, that produces re-prints / giclee’s and they are re-worked with added hand embellishments, to look like originals.

For their bedroom, I wanted to steer in a calming, zen-like direction and my clients loved another aerial photography piece by Michael Schauer for above their bed. This photo reminded them of their honeymoon travel where they hiked to the ocean in Hawaii. This photographer is represented at a local Austin art gallery where they do all their own in-house printing and custom framing.

In their guest bedroom, they wanted to go with a more traditional farmhouse look, vintage vibes, so we chose this abstract landscape giclee on canvas with a matte black floating frame. The colors are earthy, calming tones and this piece perfectly completed the space. This art piece was sourced from my art dealer that represents thousands of artists and it was a “made-to-order” giclee with hand embellishments and floating black frame.
